Air quality: a major challenge

Air quality, both inside and outside our living spaces, is a major health issue. Among other things, it is responsible for a significant number of illnesses and premature deaths. Fine particles PM2.5 are thought to be responsible for more than 48,000 premature deaths every year in France (Santé Publique France, 2016). Taking all pollutants together, the cost of air pollution in France is estimated at around 100 billion euros a year (Commission sénatoriale d'enquête sur le coût économique et financier de la pollution de l'air, 2015).

But solutions do exist!

Air stakeholders from the Pays de la Loire and Brittany regions came together on September 16, 2020 for the national air quality day to gather and share these solutions.

The day was an opportunity for exchanges between citizens, associations, local authorities and air quality professionals, with the aim of producing this practical guide. It will help you to implement air quality improvement initiatives.

4 themes were addressed during the course of the day, through workshops that enabled the co-construction of concrete, operational actions. They covered a wide range of subjects (indoor air quality, urban planning, mobility, agriculture, education and awareness-raising, etc.).

  • Indoor air and energy efficiency
  • Urban planning and development
  • Mobility and Air Quality
  • Air and Climate Interactions

These actions can be included in the air actions of PCAET (Plans Climat Air Energie Territorial), for developers, site managers, local authorities, ....
